Pleasant morning greets people of JK

Srinagar, March 08: A pleasant morning greeted people of Jammu and Kashmir today after upper reaches of the state were lashed by snow and plains with rains last week.

Mercury rose in many areas of the state except frontier region of Ladakh as Leh was the coldest place with a low of minus 6 degrees Celsius this morning, a Met official said.

Kargil, also in Ladakh region, recorded a minimum of minus 3.4 deg C. Srinagar, summer capital of the state, recorded a low of 5.5 deg C, 3.5 degrees above normal. Qazigund and Kokernag in south Kashmir settled at a low of 5.1 deg C and 3.1 deg C.

Kupwara in north Kashmir also registered an improved night temperature with a minimum of 2 deg C. The night temperature in south kashmir hill resort of Pahalgam was minus 2.2 deg C. The night temperature in Jammu region also rose with the city recording a low of 12.1 deg C followed by Katra at 11.4 deg C. Batote recorded a low of 7.5 deg C, while Banihal had 7 deg C..
