There is a need to protect the most valuable land of the old airport located at Begumpet. It may be mentioned that the ex-ruler of Hyderabad State, Nawab Meer Osman Ali Khan had started Begumpet Airport in 1930 with the establishment of Hyderabad Aero Club. Initially it was reserved for the flights of Deccan Airways. In 1937, the Nizam of Hyderabad expanded this Airport and constructed the old terminal building. In 1972 the current terminal was constructed. Flights continued till 2008. After the construction of new airport at Shamsabad, Begumpet Airport was restricted for only commercial flights. This airport still has all the facilities of air traffic control. When normal flights ceased, the land grabbers have an eye on this land. Some Govt. organizations were allotted lands in the vicinity of the Airport. Now, these institutions are trying to claim ownership on these lands.
If Govt. of Telangana makes an attempt to take back 790 acres of land given to Airports Authority, it will get a valuable piece of land.
