Ms. Sabera Begum, wife of ex police constable, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Quadeer alleged that her husband is detained in jail illegally. Mr. Quadeer was imprisoned in 1992 when he was convicted in the murder case of ACP Mr. Sattaiah.
She filed a petition in A.P. High Court requesting for payment of damages to the tune of Rs. 50 lakh for violating Human Rights.
Court has given two week’s time to Govt. of A.P. for submitting its response. Mr. Quadeer was given life imprisonment. He has already completed 23 years in jail so far. Last year Govt. had rejected her application for the release of her husband on health grounds. Govt. reiterated that if he is released, he would encourage miscreants & communal elements. Recently. The same Govt. has released him on two months bail on Medical grounds.
Ms. Pushpender Kaur, pleading on behalf of Ms. Sabera Begum contended that the Govt. is giving double punishment for the same crime because the total duration of life imprisonment is only 14 years. He is suffering from diabetes. He lost one leg due to the negligence of the Govt. The other prisoners in similar cases were set free after 14 years.
