Former Minister P. Shankar Rao on Thursday petitioned the High Court to take stringent action against the DGP and Commissioner of Police for allegedly trespassing into the Osmania University campus during the Telangana March on September 30.
The maverick Congress legislator, who is known for knocking the doors of the High Court at very given an opportunity on various issues, now addressed a letter to the Chief Justice of A.P. High Court complaining against the police action on the students in OU campus.
Dr. Shakar Rao in his letter pointed out that the High Court had earlier imposed a ban on the police not to enter the OU campus with prior permission of the court. However, despite this ban order the police personnel entered the campus on September 30 and went on a rampage against the students. This is nothing but contempt of court and hence the DGP and the Commissioner of Police have to be punished for this violation, he observed in the letter.
Speaking to the media later the former minister also lambasted the Chief Minister for giving an audience to the Telangana MPs who had gone in a delegation to meet him at the camp office. Instead of meeting the delegation, the Chief Minister and allowed the police to arrest the MPs, he ridiculed and supported the move of the T-MPs to move a privilege motion in the Lok Sabha against the Chief Minister.(NSS).
