Plea to cut T employees’ salary

Hyderabad, February 27: A writ petition was filed in the AP High Court urging it to declare the action of the state government in not deducting the corresponding salary from the Telangana employees, who are taking part in the non-cooperation movement from February 17, as illegal.

C Narayana, a resident of Anantapur, filed the public interest litigation (PIL) contending that the action of the employees was against the AP Civil Service Conduct Rules.

He told the court that as per the Conduct Rules, government employees cannot abstain from work without obtaining leave and similarly they cannot shirk away from work while on duty. Both actions amount to misconduct and are liable for disciplinary proceedings.

The petitioner also said that the employees adopting such methods were not entitled to get salary for the period. He argued that it was the obligation of the state to follow the `no work, no pay principle’ during such pen-down strikes and avoid any bias while doing that. The High Court will hear the petition on Monday.
