Plea for CBI probe into BJP leader’s murder: HC reserves order

Madras High Court today reserved orders on a petition seeking a CBI probe into the recent murder of BJP Tamil Nadu unit General Secretary V Ramesh.

First Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Kumar Agrawal and Justice M Sathyanarayanan reserved orders without mentioning a date on the petition filed by Ramesh’s friend Manoharan of Salem district.

The petitioner submitted that Ramesh’s murder involved different extremist groups in various places and hence he
wanted transfer of the probe to the CBI.

He contended that after the murder of Hindu Munnani leader Vellaiyappan in Vellore early this month, attacks on BJP leaders and cadres continued in the state.

Ramesh was murdered by a four-member gang near his house in Salem on July 19. The killing was condemned by various
political parties while the BJP expressed concern over attacks targeting Hindu leaders.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had ordered setting up of a special investigation division to probe the murder.
