Playing myself in ‘Chintuji’ an enjoyble experience: Rishi Kapoor

New Delhi, September 06: He is one of the few actors in the Hindi film industry who seems to be getting better with age!

“Evergreen” actor Rishi Kapoor, whose appearances on celluloid over the last few years have marked a “renaissance phase” of sorts for the actor, has been evoking a lot of praise for his latest film ‘Chintuji’, which features him in a role bearing a striking resemblance to his real life.

Directed by ‘Chintuji’, which released in cinema halls on Friday, has Rishi Kapoor in the role of a filmstar ‘Chintu Ji’ who wants to contest elections from his hometown.

For the actor, who has been wowing cinegoers in last few years with his character roles in films like ‘Hum tum’, ‘Namaste London’, ‘Luck by Chance’ and ‘Love Aaj Kal’, playing the role inspired by his real life was an enjoyable experience.

”I feel great that the movie is inspired from my name. What is great that the film comes at a time when I have earned some respect, love and name in the industry,” Rishi told UNI here.

Talking about his role in the film, the veteran actor said, “Chintu Ji is about a filmstar who wants to contest elections from his hometown but isn’t quite serious about politics. At heart, he is still a brat that he has been throughout his life and his only motive is to mint money and make merry.

Ironically, his entry in his village only ends up making life better for all there, even though it is by default than design.” A unique feature of the film is that it brings him together with Russian actress Kseniya Ryabinkina with whom he earlier shared screen space in his father’s directorial venture ‘Mera Naam Joker’.

”It was way back in 1970 when I played the role of younger Raj Kapoor in ‘Mera Naam Joker’. It is interesting that 40 years later, I am coming along with her. Incidentally this will be only her second Hindi film since she appeared in ‘Mera Naam Joker’. In Chintu Ji, she has a very pivotal role to play as she brings along immense metamorphosis in the life of the character that I play. It’s her words in the film which make me realise things and open my eyes wide,”the actor said.

Asked whether like his character in the film, he also intended to join politics at some point, Rishi said,”No not at all.” Presented by Gen Next Films and Kaleidoscope and produced by Bobby Bedi, ‘Chintuji’ also features Priyanshu Chatterjee and Kulraj Randhawa.

Written and directed by Ranjit Kapur, ‘Chintuji’ is a clever satire that stars Rishi Kapoor as an exaggerated version of himself.
