A platform for political leaders to relax

Hyderabad, November 02: It was a kind of retreat for many politicians. The Alai Balai programme organised by the AP Malala Ikya Vedika at Gandipet here on Sunday provided the platform for politicians to relax a while and abstain from slamming one another on one issue or the other.

But TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao took enough care not cross each other’s path. If Naidu attended the programme in the afternoon, Rao arrived after ensuring that Naidu had left the place.

Of course, both were not inclined to be seen in each other’s company.

The speakers too studiously steered clear of the classification of Scheduled Castes since Malas are opposed to it.

Only Chandrasekhara Rao expressed a politician’s difficulty of speaking on the issue since the Malas and Madigas are quite huge in numbers and politicians have to do a tight-rope walking.

“We are not able to say anything on the issue. But I will ensure justice to Dalits ( a word used by politicians to remain vague). My promise that a Dalit would become chief minister of Telangana stands good even today. In fact I wish a Dalit become chief minister of a separate Andhra state too,” Rao said.
