Plastics factories in Shastripuram get notices

The efforts of Courageous local youths are getting fruitful. They were protesting against the pollution caused by nearby plastic factories in Shastripuram area.

Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Mr. Krishna Babu visited the area along with the officials and elicited information about the plastic factories. He expressed his surprise when he saw heaps of garbage. He enquired the officers about the number of plastic factories and the number of factories which were served notices.

He was briefed that there are 200 plastic factories, out of which 93 have been issued notices. On expiry of notice period, electric supply will be disconnected. Commissioner told the officials to issue notices to the remaining factories also. Some owners of these factories represented to the commissioner that they be allowed to cut the plastic existing materials of their factories. Commissioner told that permission can’t be given in residential areas for cutting plastic materials. He asked them to stop work and remove all the materials within ten days.

The local residents were very happy that within three days of launching protest Municipal Corporation issued notices. People were facing inconvenience for a longer period. Quick action taken by the Municipal Corporation is being applauded. The residents of the area told that poor women and other labourers work hard throughout the day in these factories but the factory owners do not offer any financial assistance for the weddings of their daughters or for meeting educational expenses of their children. If they suffer from any ailment, they can’t afford any medical treatment at their homes.

It is reported that after the publication of the report in Siasat on 23rd June, the minds of most of the owners of plastic factories have started changing. They have also started realizing that their business can’t be continued in residential areas anymore. It is not appropriate. People of these areas are welcoming such realistic statements of factory owners. A few factory owners are preferring their self interests at the cost of ruining the health of many inhabitants. Instead of admitting their mistake they are causing to bring disrepute to other owners who are honest and sincere. Some factory owners have started shifting their stock to other places.

The others have started thinking of making alternative arrangements. However, the efforts and protests of the local youths are continuing and they are exerting pressure on the officials. Municipal authorities are also impressed by the zeal of the local youths. They are now discharging their duties as per rules.
