Chennai, December 27: A plastic object washed ashore at Kalpakkam, near here, and was recovered by police today.
Top police officials said the 1.5 ft tall plastic object could be part of some ship’s engine that could have fallen into the sea.
However, a bomb detection and disposal squad from Chennai has been deputed to examine the object as a precautionary measure, they said.
The Madras Atomic Power Station and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research are located at Kalpakkam.
Police, however, said there was no need for alarm as the object was recovered from a spot far away from the installations.
Officials said they recovered the object after locals informed them about it.
