Plane with Sanaullah”s body takes off for Pakistan

Chandigarh, May 9 (ANI): The special plane with Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah”s body took off from the Chandigarh airport for Pakistan on Thursday evening.

The Pakistani prisoner”s body was handed over to an official of the Pakistan High Commission by the authorities in Chandigarh earlier in the day.

Two Pakistani diplomats and two relatives of Sanaullah were among the persons who had taken the body.

Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur earlier today expressed her condolences to the family members of the Pakistan prisoner, and said the Indian Government would provide all assistance to send his body back to Pakistan.

“We have done the best of the treatment for him, but sadly he is no more. We will facilitate and provide assistance to send his body back,” she said.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that despite the government”s best efforts, Sanaullah had succumbed to his injures.

“Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, he (Sanaullah) succumbed to injuries today morning. We have informed Pakistan and are in touch with them,” Akbaruddin said.

“We would make best efforts and arrangements to send back Sanaullah”s body,” he added.

Sanaullah, 52, a convicted terrorist serving a life sentence in Jammu”s Kot Bhalwal Jail, was undergoing treatment at Chandigarh”s PGIMER, after being hit with a brick by a fellow inmate on May 3.

The attack followed a similar fatal assault in a Lahore jail on Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh on April 26.

Sanaullah died with two members of his family by his side.

Sanaullah”s brother-in-law Mohammed Sehzaad and nephew Mohammed Asif had arrived in Chandigarh via Amritsar through the Wagah-Attari border earlier this week. (ANI)
