New Delhi, December 05: The MCD today suspended five officials for allegedly digging a pit without authorisation and adequate safeguards in Shakurpur area here, in which two boys drowned earlier this week.
The action came after the Deputy Commissioner of Rohini Zone, under which Shakurpur falls, submitted a report to the Municipal Commissioner after probing the incident.
Municipal Commissioner K S Mehra has placed under suspension the five officials of Engineering and Horticulture Departments of the Rohini Zone and directed the Chief Vigilance Officer to launch major penalty proceedings against them, the civic body said in a press statement.
According to the report, the pit was dug in an MCD park without permission of the senior officials and no required safeguards were taken.
The suspended officials are Kanwar Pal, Section Officer, Mahaveer Chaudhary and Rajinder, Malies of Horticulture Department and Ajeet and Anoop, Beldars of Engineering Departments.
