Dhaka, July 12: Forty-seven fishermen have been abducted by pirates for ransom from a Bangladeshi island in the Bay of Bengal, a media report said here on Tuesday.
Pirates stormed 32 trawlers on Sunday night before abducting the fishermen and looting cash and machinery worth 50 lakh takas, the Daily Star reported.
Thirteen other fishermen were injured in the attack at Madhyachar island, 60 km southeast of Bangladesh’s Patharghata area.
The local trawler owners’ association said 30 armed men attacked the fishermen.
