Pinkathon, held in Guwahati, reflects on women empowerment

New Delhi: The city of Guwahati recently geared up to celebrate the power of women with Pinkathon 2017, a women’s only marathon.

The third edition of India’s biggest women’s run initiative was held in a grandeur manner in the city where a large number of women gathered to participate in the marathon to run for women empowerment and health.

High spirited and enthusiastic were the women, who gathered in large number to run for the cause of women empowerment and creating awareness about breast cancer.

“It feels amazing to be here and I feel so energetic to be a part of this event. People are very cheerful. It gives us a boost up to participate more in such events,” said a participant.

Founded by Bollywood actor Milind Soman and Reema Sanghavi in the year 2014, the Pinkathon highlights the need for increased awareness about breast cancer and other health issues of women.

The marathon was flagged off by the actor himself at Sonaram field in Guwahati city.

It also offers medical checkups, mammograms for all participants, training workshops and counselling sessions for various marginalised communities.

“We are very happy to have one city in our series which is in northeast otherwise we have it in eight cities across the country and this is the fifth year of Pinkathon. We have seen thousands of women who have changed their life because of Pinkathon. They have taken their first step here and they have started living a healthier and active lifestyle and it not only has been a change for them but for their families as well,” said Milind Soman, Founder, Pinkathon.

“We know that because when women begin to adopt a healthier lifestyle then even their families began to follow them. They have a great influence on the lifestyle of their family and also very important for the fitness and health of the country,” he added. (ANI)
