Pink panther roars in triumph

Hyderabad, July 31: The verdict in the byelections is an unwritten memorandum from the people of Telangana to Srikrishna Committee to decide in favour of a separate state, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao said today.

He wanted Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and home minister P Chidambaram to understand the importance of the verdict and seek a report from the Srikrishna panel immediately. “Let the government not waste time and introduce a bill for bifurcation of the state,” Chandrasekhar Rao said, speaking to reporters at Telangana Bhavan today. He said the people of Telangana had given their verdict despite allurements of money, liquor and biased media coverage.

The verdict is a slap on the face of the TDP and the Congress for their ambivalent attitude towards Telangana. “The Congress and the TDP together have spent upto Rs.200 crore to lure the voters. There was no holds barred distribution of money and liquor and yet the voter had shown maturity of mind,” Chandrasekhara Rao said. The TRS chief also felt that the verdict was a lesson to pseudo-Telangana protagonists – TDP and the Congress. At several places the TDP has lost deposits and it showed that the people had seen the gameplan of both the parties. Though the TDP tried to dilute the Telangana cause with its `Babli Circus’, the people were not carried away.

He appreciated the wisdom of the Muslim voters in Nizamabad Urban where they supported Y Lakshminarayana though he belonged to the BJP. They are role models for Muslims in other parts of Telangana, he said, pointing out that without their support Lakshminarayana would not have won the election. “It was like Ganga Jamuna Taizeeb,” he said, and clarified that his party would not have any electoral understanding with the saffron party in future.
