Gaya, September 04: Pind Daan is a Hindu service in which religious service is performed for the dead ancestors. The occasion is fortnight-long and places like Gaya are thronged by people during this time.
According to Hindus, the service provides solace to the dead ancestors and they attain salvation through the service.
The souls of the dead don’t get salvation till the ritual is performed by the descendants of the dead.
Gaya is believed to be the holiest place for the purpose of ritual so the people visit the place in numbers in order to give redemption to the wandering soul of the ancestors.
Every year people come here from across the country and the world during pitrapaksh- the 15 days of the waning moon during the Hindu month of Ashwin.
