Thiruvananthapuram, August 22: CPI-M Kerala unit Secretary and former minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been summoned to appear before a special CBI court in Kochi on September 24 in connection with a graft case in which he is an accused.
Vijayan is the ninth accused in the case relating to award of contracts to Canadian company SNC Lavalin for renovation of three hydel power projects in the state during his tenure as Electricity Minister in the E K Nayanar Government in 1998.
He received the summons at the party headquarters AKG Bhavan here yesterday, CBI sources said today.
A petition by Vijayan challenging Governor R S Gavai’s sanction to prosecute him in the case is pending before the Supreme Court.
The CBI on June 11 last filed the chargesheet in the Kochi court arraigning Vijayan as an accused in the case.
Vijayan has been charged under IPC sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), section 420 (cheating) and section 13 (1) and 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
