Federal investigators have determined that the pilot whose helicopter crashed while filming a reality television show two years ago likely caused the accident that killed him and two others.
The National Transportation Safety Board issued its probable cause report Monday in the February 2013 crash that occurred during filming of a military-themed reality show for the Discovery Channel. The report determined that the pilot, who was having difficulty seeing because of a small light being used to illuminate an actor, should not have continued flying.
The accident occurred on a moonless night with little ground illumination on a film ranch in northeast Los Angeles County.
A Discovery Channel spokesman didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment.
