Chandigarh, December 28: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by a senior lawyer on Monday in Punjab High Court against the Chandigarh-based Sacred Heart School, which expelled Ruchika Girhotra under pressure from ex-Haryana DGP SPS Rathore.
According to report, senior advocate Ranjan Lakhanpal, who has filed the PIL, has also sought an independent probe in the Ruchika molestation case.
Ruchika was then studying in Chandigarh’s Sacred Heart School when she was molested by Rathore.
The PIL seeks action against each and every one involved in the case and responsible for delaying justice to Ruchika Girhotra.
Ahead of moving the PIL, Lakhanpal had said that the school must give clarifications under what circumstances Ruchika was expelled, what were the reasons, and under whose pressure it was done.
The latest development comes after the sparkling disclosure from a former joint director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who had alleged that Rathore even tried to influence him and the investigation team.
“He used to come to my chamber and even call up at my residence. He used to offer me favours at various joints. He also tried to influence my investigation team,” RM Singh, who headed the probe, told reporters.
The officer said he later learned that his recommendations were not included in the chargesheet.
A special CBI court in Chandigarh had held Rathore guilty of molesting Ruchika in Panchkula town Aug 12, 1990 and sentenced him to a six-month prison term.
The budding tennis player had committed suicide three years after the incident. Rathore was exonerated from the charges of abetment to suicide.
