Washington: Italian scooter brand Piaggio on Thursay announced an electric model for its most loved scooter model, ‘Vespa’, The Verge reported.
The ‘Vespa Elettrica’ will have a range of 100 kilometers and like most electric vehicles, it will be flexible and depend on how one rides it.
Piaggio said that, “Elettrica should have superior performance to a 50cc scooter, and is perfect for city environments.”
The company also claimed that, “no vehicle in the world is now as in line with zero-emission propulsion as Vespa.”
Four hours of charging from a “normal wall outlet” will bring the batteries back up to full, according to Piaggio.
Moreover, one can expect these scooters to last for about 10 years, or 50,000 – 70,000 km.
Further, a ‘Vespa Elettrica’ app will allow users to connect to the scooter over Bluetooth so that the scooter can serve up messages and incoming phone calls. The app will also be able to relay diagnostic information about the scooter, as well as locate it on a map.
The riders will even be able to trigger a phone’s voice assistant or control music, if they have a bluetooth-capable helmet.
Moreover, Vespa is releasing a special helmet equipped with built-in bluetooth speakers and a microphone alongside the Elettrica for just this purpose.
Expected to roll out in 2018, the ‘Vespa Elettrica’ will be up for preorder in spring. (ANI)
