Photography is not Haraam: Princess Reem

Dubai, July 20: The Montparnasse Exhibition in Paris showcased paintings and photography work of Saudi Arabian artists on Sunday including the art work of 11 Saudi women.

One of the distinguished female artists was Princess Reem al-Faisal, contributing with her “Pilgrimage” collection.

The collection which won her the title as the first female to take photography snapshots of the sacred Muslim pilgrimage ritual, has its purpose to document the ritual, all in black and white hues.

” We have a culture that revolves around pilgrimage, and pilgrimage is considered to be an ancient and perennial ritual in the kingdom, and deeply entrenched within in Islam till present time ”

Princess Reem al-Faisal“Pilgrimage” has came after an accumulated effort, and made done after three years of hard work .

“We have a culture that revolves around pilgrimage, and pilgrimage is considered to be an ancient and perennial ritual in the kingdom, and deeply entrenched within in Islam till present time,” Princess Reem said.

“My work has been inspired from the Quranic verse: “God is the Light of the heavens and the earth”, and through my work I was in my quest to showcase the manifestation of God Almighty in his creations, and pilgrimage is/was the best sublime example of such manifestation,” she added.

Another female Saudi artist is Shadia Alim with her collection “slopes”, inspired from the kingdom’s grassier southern region all in green and copper colors.

Also, Shadia’s second collection “abstraction” carried images of women to reflect whatever beautiful found in society.
