Photo Identity proof must to travel in AC Coaches from Feb-15

Hyderabad, February 03:From February 15, passengers traveling in AC First Class, AC II Tier, AC III Tier, AC Char Car and executive classes will have to compulsorily carry any o­ne of the prescribed proofs of photo Identity in original during the journey.

According to an SCR press release here today, the passengers of AC classes need to produce proof of identities as when required failing which the passengers booked o­n that ticket will be treated as without ticket and charged accordingly.

The nine valid proof of identity prescribed by the Ministry of Railways are: Voter Photo Identity Card issued by Election Commission of India; Passport; PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department; Driving License issued by RTO; Photo Identity Card having serial number issued by Central/State Government; Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recongnised schools/colleges for their students; nationalised bank passbook with photograph; credit card issued by Banks with laminated photograph and Unique Identification Card ie, Aadhaar.

At present, the passengers with Tatkal and e-tickets are required to carry original proof of identity during the course of train journey. With a view to prevent the cases of travelling o­n transferred tickets in AC classes, the procedure of carrying proof of identity by passengers is extended to AC Class passengers also, the pressnote added.
