Chandigarh, Nov 27: The recent case at Panjab University where Vijay Dhanda’s Ph.D registration was cancelled, no written/verbal communication about the cancellation has been made to Dhanda. While her fate of pursuing Ph.D hangs fire, the officials at varsity have no comment to make.
The PU Vice Chancellor Prof R C Sobti had constituted a committee to look into Ph.D registration case of Vijay Dhanda, wife of an Akali leader in Ludhiana and Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Punjab, Harish Dhanda after he had received a complaint in the matter. The registration was approved by DUI. The committee decided that Vijay was under-qualified to pursue Ph.D at the varsity.
While Vijay had been given a green signal by Prof SC Vaidya, Dean, Students Welfare for doing PhD in October, she says that she had started researching for the topic. “I am shocked at the working of Panjab University officials.
One senior official approves it and the other overrides the decision, the varsities working system is beyond my understanding. I have received no communication about cancellation even after two month of approval. I have been mentally harassed and will take the issue to its logical end”.
Meanwhile, the officials at PU are tight-lipped about the issue and do not want to make any comment. A senior official though claims that the communication regarding cancellation would be sent shortly to Vijay. The fellows at the varsity state that if the entire matter is not probed and DUI is not questioned as on what grounds had he approved the Ph.D registration, it would mean that the entire episode was a planned blame game.
Talking to Newsline, a PU fellow said, “When DUI’s decision has been overruled after a committee’s report, the officials should get the matter to the syndicate for discussion. It is still not clear that is vice-chancellor upset for being surpassed or because a wrong decision has been taken”.
Another fellow added: “If V-C is completely convinced that the registration is incorrect, the same should have been communicated to the pursuant so that she can rethink her plans. The decision of the committee was talked out publicly by V-C some fortnight ago, so what is taking the varsity so long to communicate to the department”.
