Hyderabad, April 20: The proposed Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project (KDWSP) Phase-III is set to materialise soon with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) inviting Expressions of Interest (EoI) from consultants for the preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR).
The project which has been facing many hurdles aims to supply 90 MGD of water to Greater Hyderabad.
The Water Board called for EoIs to prepare DPRs for the transmission mains from Sunkishala in Nalgonda district to Kodandapur, Kodandapur to Bonguluru X roads and Bonguluru X roads to Alwal Master Balancing Reserviors (MBRs) to supply 90 MGD water to GHMC areas including the water pumping station at Sunkishala and the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Kodandapur.
The last date for submission of EoI is April 25. Water Board officials told City Express that the additional 90 MGD of water will help in finding a permanent solution to the looming water crisis being faced in the Greater Hyderabad area. The phase III of the project would cost Rs 1,800 crore.
Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in recent meetings with departmental heads as well as in public meetings had expressed the
government’s keenness in taking up the project on priority basis on par with the Godavari Drinking Water Project.
The project’s third phase once taken up, is expected to be completed within two years. Land has already been acquired from Sunkishala and designs are available.
Officials said that the phase three of the project includes construction of raw water intake-cum-pumping station at Sunkishala, a pipeline to be laid from there to Kodandapur, a distance of 18 to 19 km, costing around Rs 350 crore.
The other component includes laying a pipeline from Kondandapur to ORR, a distance of 100 km, construction of a treatment plant and pumping equipment at Kodandapur, Nasarapally, Godakondla and MBRs at Gungal and Alwal, all of which is estimated to cost around Rs 970 crore. The laying of pipelines from Bonguluru junction on ORR to Lingampally (56 km) to supply Krishna water to Singur-Manjira system would cost around Rs 480 crore.
