Hyderabad, September 24: the Osmania University Students JAC called upon all petrol pumps and liquor outlets in the region to shut shop for two days to express solidarity with the striking Telangana state government employees.
However, AP Federation of Petroleum Traders president M Prabhakar Reddy told to media that the 300 outlets in the Greater Hyderabad region will continue to function as usual on Saturday and Sunday. However, petrol pumps and liquor shops in the vicinity of Osmania University including areas like Tarnaka, Vidyanagar, Shivam and Adikmet are likely to stay closed as a precautionary measure. The remaining outlets will take a call on shutting down in response to the situation, said Reddy.
In another development on Friday, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy met governor E S L Narasimhan and apprised him of the steps being taken by the state government in view of the general strike. Unless the two sides come to the negotiating table by Monday or Tuesday, the situation in the Telangana region is expected to deteriorate further with each passing day.
