G.R. Karunakar and three others have filed a WP No.20280/ 2014 in the High Court for delimitation of the wards in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation as per the Census-2011 with equal distribution of voters.
The High Court in its Orders dated: 25.08.2014 in WP No.20280/2014 have directed the concerned to carry out the delimitation of wards for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area as per G.O.Ms.No.570, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (Ele.2) Department, Dated: 06.11.1996 at the earliest and thereafter to hold the elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
The State Election Commission in the letter third read above has requested the Government for completion of delimitation process as directed by the High Court in the reference second read above. The Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Hyderabad in the letter 4th read above inter alia, has stated that according to Census, 2011, the population of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area is 67,31,790 and for implementing the orders of the High Court in the reference second read above, delimitation of wards in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area has to be taken up as per guidelines issued in G.O.Ms.No.570, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (Election-2) Department, dated:06.11.1996 after fixation of strength of elected members in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area in the process of conducting of General elections.
He has therefore requested the orders of the Government in the matter. The same position had been reiterated by the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration, Hyderabad in reference 5th read above. The Government after careful examination of the matter and in pursuance of the orders of the High Court dated:05.08.2014 in W.P.No.20280/2014 hereby order that the process of delimitation of election wards in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation as per the census of 2011, shall be started as per the guidelines issued in G.O.Ms.No.570, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (Election-2) Department, dated:06.11.1996 and other rules & regulation in force. The Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Hyderabad is directed to take necessary action and report compliance at the earliest.
