Allahabad, March 26: A petition was today filed in the Allahabad High Court seeking direction that a criminal case lodged against former Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh be handed over to the Enforcement Directorate for investigation.
The petition, which is likely to come up for hearing before a bench next week, was filed by Shivakant Tripathi, a resident of Kanpur, who had lodged an FIR at Babupurwa police station in October last year, accusing Singh of corruption while his party was in power in the state and he himself was the Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Development Council.
Singh, who has denied the charges, has been granted a stay by the High Court on his arrest in connection with the FIR lodged under Prevention of Corruption Act, Money
Laundering Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The case is at present being investigated by the Economic Offences Wing of the state government.
