Washington D.C. [USA], Nov 11 (ANI): A week after attracting criticism for his joke about Texas Congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw, comedian Pete Davidson directly apologised to Crenshaw with the help of a skit in the following installment of ‘Saturday Night Live’.
Earlier this month, Davidson, who featured on SNL for an election-themed segment of ‘Weekend Update’, gave his “first impressions” of various candidates. Speaking about Crenshaw, he said that the former Navy SEAL looked like “a hitman in a porno movie.” He also added, “I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever.”
Shortly after the show aired, the American comedian came under fire for his controversial joke.
In an attempt to redeem himself, Davidson returned to the sets of SNL for this week’s installment of the ‘Weekend Update’ and said, “He (Crenshaw) is a war hero and deserves all the respect in the world. And if any good came of it, it’s that for one day, the left and right finally came together to agree on something: that I’m a (jerk).”
‘Ya think?’ said Crenshaw, who joined the ‘Set It Up’ actor as a surprise appearance. ‘Thanks for making a Republican look good,’ the congressman-elect added.
According to a report by USA Today, Crenshaw had lost his right eye in a blast in Afghanistan. The Congress accepted Davidson’s apology and said, “we’re good.”
Crenshaw also took this opportunity to express his “first impressions” of the comedian. Commenting on Davidson’s pictures the congressman said, “Pete looks like if the meth from ‘Breaking Bad’ was a person. Pete looks like a troll doll with a tapeworm. … Pete looks like Martin Short in ‘The Santa Clause 3.’ By the way, one of these three is actually good on ‘SNL.’ “
Later in the skit, Crenshaw continued to ignore his phone while Ariana Grande’s ‘Breathin’ played as his ringtone.
Davidson and Ariana broke off their engagement last month. The two got engaged in June after just a few weeks of dating.
The news of their breakup came in less than a month after the sudden death of Grande’s ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, who passed away following an apparent drug overdose. [source_without_link]ANI[/source_without_link]
