Saylorsburg, October 05: An adventure-loving woman, who kept exotic pets such as Beer, African lion and the Bengal tiger, was killed by her pet beer that she had since 2000. She was trying to clean the cage of the beer when the mishap happened.
According to reports, on Sunday night, Kelly Walz went into her pet beer that she called Teddy’s 15-by-15-foot steel and concrete cage. To do the task peacefully she tried to distract the beer by throwing a shovelful of dog food to one side. “She’s done it 1,000 times,” said her friend and neighbor, Scott Castone. “And on 1,001, something happened.”
“She loved the animals and took care of them,” Castone said Monday as he prepared to tell his own children that Walz had died. Castone had to finally shoot the beer with a shotgun after it climbed on Kelly and continuously mauled her.
At one time, the Walzes couple have kept an African lion, cougar, jaguar, tiger, bear, leopard and two servals on the wooded property in Ross Township, a rural area about 30 miles northeast of Allentown in northeastern Pennsylvania for many years without any major mishaps or incidents. As of Monday, only the mountain lion and tiger remained, according to Feaser. Castone said the rest had died of old age.
