Kurnool, May 16: In a bizarre incident, a bridegroom killed one person of a band troupe after the latter asked for a tip.
Soon the groom was put behind the bars. The groom, Lingappa, married Lakshmi Devi on Saturday at Vandavagili in Holagunda mandal.
The newly-married couple, accompanied by the band troupe, were taken in a procession in the village the same night.
Later, when the couple were about to enter the house during ‘gruha pravesam’, troupe leader Sivasankar (31) asked the groom to give them some ‘baksheesh’.
To this, the groom, in an angry mood, said he would not give them anything and asked them to leave the place immediately.
But the troupe leader persisted that something should be given and in a fit of rage, Lingappa soon stabbed Sankar twice with the knife he was having in his hand, which is given to the groom as part of a marriage ritual.
As Sankar fell unconscious, he was shifted to the government hospital in Adoni.
But when doctors said that his condition was serious, he was moved to Kurnool Government hospital where he died while obtaining treatment.
SI Ismail said a case has been registered against Lingappa and arrested.
