Pervez Musharraf survives assassination bid

Pervez Musharraf, former Pakistani president survived an assassination attempt on Thursday. According to reports, his convoy escaped a blast in Islamabad.

This comes days after Pakistani Army chief Gen Raheel Sharif is said to have advised the government to allow Musharraf, indicted for treason, to go overseas for treatment and to look after his ailing mother.

The blast reportedly struck Faizabad Bridge late on Wednesday night, when Mr Musharraf was being transported from a military hospital to his farm house on the outskirts of Islamabad.

“Four kilograms of explosive device planted in a pipeline under a bridge exploded around 20 minutes before the former president was supposed to cross the spot,” senior police official Liaqat Niazi is quoted by the AFP news agency
