Persistent rain spoils third Lanka-Kiwis ODI match

The third one-day international between Sri Lanka and New Zealand was abandoned due to persistent rain at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday.

Winning the toss, Sri Lanka decided to field as the hosts went on to make 145 runs for the loss of three wickets before rain stopped the play, Stuff.co.nz reported.

While New Zealand opener Martin Guptill remained unbeaten on 66 runs, Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews claimed the crucial wickets of Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor and Tom Latham before rain interrupted for a third time to wash out the game completely.

The seven matches ODI series have been levelled at 1-1, with focus now shifts to the fourth one dayer in Nelson. (ANI)
