Perform or perish: CM tells corporators

Hyderabad: Trying to ignite minds and inculcating an idea of putting in persistent efforts to root out problems, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today exhorted the newly-elected GHMC corporators to perform or perish.

Addressing orientation classes for the corporators at Pragati Resorts on the outskirts of Hyderabad, turning a messiah KCR asked the former to avoid headstrong and running away from the problems. He cautioned that the people, who carry the leaders on their shoulders, will not hesitate to hit them against stone if failed to deliver goods. Accusing the previous leaders of the civic body of destroying the city for leaving behind the legacy of a volley of problems, KCR said the leaders of the civic body should make efforts like an army on borders to take on the issues. “Let us have a plan to perform to satisfy the people with regard to amenities and problems. Instead the corporators should run into problems to spontaneously address them to keep the expectations of the people, who gave them the power”.

The Chief Minister called upon them not to change attire, language and attitude on being elected a corporator and instead work sincerely to win their hearts by offering suitable services. The corporators should visit Monda Market in Secunderabad and see that other markets are built immediately. He asked the people to avoid bribing officials for double bedroom houses, and corporators should avoid middlemen besides focusing on construction of bus terminus and providing other facilities. “We need Rs 11,000 crore to beautify the city on par with global standards to have all facilities and infrastructure”, he said and sought to know what happened to Hyderabad if it witnesses same rainfall and deluge that battered Chennai city in recent times. The corporators should give promises that they can keep and earn name by completing their immediate tasks and long-term problems with a plan. (NSS)
