Congress leader Manish Tewari on Tuesday said the people wanted to teach the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) a lesson for what he called ‘arrogance’ and added that they used the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as an instrument to do that.
“We humbly accept the verdict. It gives two messages: the people wanted to teach BJP a lesson for their arrogance and AAP was an instrument rather than the Congress for the people. That is why the entire Congress votes went to AAP,” said Tewari.
Meanwhile, party leader Anand Sharma said that he hoped Kejriwal did not disappoint the people of Delhi like Prime Minister Narendra Modi disappointed the people of the country.
“They have been able to connect with the people. Delhi voters have given a strong mandate. It is a historic win for AAP. I congratulate them for it. However, the expectations will be very high. We hope Kejriwal ji won’t disappoint the people of Delhi like Modi ji disappointed the people of India,” said Sahrma.
In a setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP won the elections with 67 of the 70 assembly seats.
The BJP, which was relying heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity, brought in former IPS officer Kiran Bedi as its chief ministerial candidate to counter Kejriwal; nut could secure just three seats.
The Congress, which had ruled the national capital for 15 years up to 2013 and was trying to rebuild its lost ground in Delhi, has lost in all seats.
