People rejected BJP’s arrogance: Mamata on by-polls result

BENGAL: The ruling Trinamool Congress win the Kaliaganj and Kharagpur Sadar, as per latest counting trends on Thursday for the West Bengal Assembly bypolls.

Dedicating the victory to the people to the people of the state, CM Mamata Banerjee said:

“We dedicate this victory to the people of Bengal. This is the response of the people to BJP’s arrogance. It is clear now that we will win all three seats, including the Kharagpur seat, for the first time.” Mamata was quoted as saying by news agency News18 .

Trinamool candidate Pradip Sarkar wins Kharagpur Sadar assembly by-election by 20,811 votes by defeating BJP’s Kamal Chandra Sarkar by a margin of 2,304 votes.

The by-elections were held on November 25.

Kharagpur Sadar in West Midnapore district had elected state BJP president Dilip Ghosh in the 2016 Assembly polls. The constituency went to the hustings after Ghosh got elected to the Lok Sabha from the Midnapore constituency earlier this year.

During the general elections, the BJP led in the Assembly segments of Kharagpur Sadar and Kaliaganj, while the Trinamool was ahead in Karimpur.
