Kolkata: Chinese Consulate General, Kol Zha Liyou, on Saturday said that initiating a people-to-people exchange mechanism will help in strengthening bilateral relations between India and China.
While addressing an event focused on India-China bilateral relationship, Liyou told ANI: “In order to strengthen the ties we need to start with the people-to-people exchange, because, without such a mechanism, people of both countries would neither understand each other nor will be able to work accordingly,” Liyou said.
“For example, Indians would not understand the Chinese way of doing business,” he added.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi co-chaired the first-ever meeting of India-China High-Level Mechanism on Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges in December 2018. The leaders added that the people-to-people exchanges would enhance cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
The India-China High-Level Mechanism on Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges was established pursuant to the decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping of China, during their informal summit in Wuhan in April 2018.
The mechanism underlines the important role of academic and scholarly exchanges to boost the people-to-people ties of both countries.
During their meeting, Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi had attached great importance to media communication and encouraged the media of both China and India to make reports on friendship and cooperation in an effort to build a friendly public environment.
