Hyderabad, January 20: Bringing the activities in all government departments, organisations and schools to a grinding halt, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Employees, Teachers and Workers today organised a pen down, chalk down and tool down programme across the state. Nearly 10 lakh employees, teachers and workers participated in the programme protesting against the delay in fulfilling their demands.
The JAC organised lunch-hour demonstrations at their offices across the state including Hyderabad to mark their protest. However, the employees of Andhra Pradesh Secretariat Employees Union preferred not to join their JAC colleagues.
Apart from health cards to all employees for cashless treatment and filling of about five lakh vacant posts in various departments, the employees want the government to abolish outsourcing, regularise jobs, increase house rent allowance, and also do away with the apprentice system for teachers. They threatened to intensify their strike from next week in case the government fails to resolve their demands.
