Karimnagar, January 07: Contrary to the expectations of local police, people staged peaceful demonstrations opposing recommendations of the Srirkrishna Committee report. There were no reports of violence in Karimnagar district.
At Indira crossroads (Telangana Chowk) in Karimnagar town, JAC leaders set ablaze Srikrishna committee in effigy.
In Jagtial, nearly 15 ABVP activists climbed atop the revenue divisional office and threatened to jump from it if the central forces were not withdrawn from the district. They also demanded introduction of Telangana bill in the Parliament.
However, the protesting ABVP activists climbed down at the request of the JAC leaders.
In the same town, JAC leaders and TRS leaders stormed former Congress minister T Jeevan Reddy’s house and TDP MLA Ramana’s house.
In Sircilla, pro-Telangana activists staged dharnas, paralysed traffic and set ablaze the Srikrishna committee in effigy. The Satavahana University students joint action committee called for a bandh tomorrow.
In the evening, CPI activists led by party district secretary Marri Venkataswamy set ablaze UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in effigy at Karimnagar bus station demanding introduction of Telangana bill.
