Peace and communal harmony to be maintained in MP: Chouhan

Bhopal, September 20: Madhya Pradesh Government was duty-bound to ensure security to all sections of the society and any attempt to disrupt peace in the state in the wake of ensuing Ayodhya verdict would not be allowed to succeed, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said today. Officials at all levels have been asked to keep a watch on the law and order situation ahead of and after the verdict, which is likely to come on September 24, he told reporters in at his residence here.

“Strict action will be taken against those found to be disturbing peace,” Chouhan warned. Ministers have been asked to stay in their home districts during this period and many government programmes were cancelled in view of the upcoming ruling by the Allahabad High Court in the decades-old Ayodhya title suit case, he said.

The Chief Minister said ensuring peace was not the job of the government alone and people too have a role to play in achieving this. Earlier, Chouhan reviewed the law and order situation at a Cabinet meeting and said peace and communal harmony will be maintained in the state and sought people”s cooperation in this regard.

District Collectors, Superintendent of Police and Police Station In-charges of the respective areas will be held responsible in case of any disturbance, officials quoted Chouhan as saying at the meeting. The Chief Minister appealed to religious heads, political party leaders, elected representatives and social workers to help the government in maintaining peace and harmony in the state.
