Hyderabad: Telangana Vigilance and Enforcement Department has seized/detained PDS rice and fertiliser stock to the tune of over Rs 2.57 crore in Khammam district during surprise raids.
Department officials conducted raids on August 11 in Palvoncha area and seized 210 quintals of PDS rice worth Rs 3.78 lakh along with a lorry.
They filed a case under the Essential Commodities Act against three persons and also lodged a criminal offence at Palvoncha Police Station for diversion of PDS rice, T P Das, Director General (Vigilance and Enforcement) said today.
Another raid conducted on August 12 led to seizure of 200 quintals of PDS rice worth Rs 3.60 lakh along with a lorry in Enkoor mandal. Here, too, identical cases were filed against two persons at Enkoor Police Station, he said.
Similarly, officials conducted surprise check on the premises of fertiliser dealer M/s Krishna General and found that the firm has allegedly stored and sold the key farm input without proper documents, Das said in a release.
Since the irregularities are in contravention of Fertiliser Control Order 1985, the Mandal Agriculture Officer of Khammam (Urban) detained fertiliser stock worth Rs 2.5 crore. Also a case was filed under the Control Order against the proprietor Gunna Krishna Murthy, he added.
