Srinagar, May 23: Reiterating its resolve to get the “grossly unfair” water agreement with NHPC scrapped, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded that the state should be given right on its water to make Jammu and Kashmir economically self-reliant.
“The PDP is committed to rectify the blunder committed by the successive National Conference regimes by surrendering natural resources of the state especially the water to the NHPC”, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said addressing party workers at Awantipur, 30 kms from here in Pulwama district.
The PDP Chief pointed towards the “discriminatory” agreement singed between the then Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and then Union Power Minister P Kumaramanglam in the year 2002 when the State government had virtually surrendered its water to the NHPC.
