PDP condemns latest killings in Valley

Srinagar, August 20: Condemning the latest killings in the valley, opposition PDP today said Kashmir is currently passing through its worst political, administrative and humanitarian crisis in pursuit of justice with a “heartless” government at the helm.

“Words of sympathy, solidarity and condemnation have now lost their meaning and impact in the face of an impervious and heartless government”, PDP Patron and former chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed said in a hard hitting statement here.

Condemning the latest killings allegedly at the hands of security forces of Melad Ahmad Dar of Kulgam , Mudasir Nazir of Sopore and Nazir Ahmad of Bijbehera, Sayeed said every passing day makes Kashmir situation more difficult to handle as the pain of the people grows beyond tolerance.

He said, “It seems the state is no more governed by human beings”.

The PDP leader said Kashmir’s journey into total anarchy was “no overnight development but it is the culmination of a two-year-long drift, callousness and anti-people actions of the government”.

“This has resulted in total collapse of the political and administrative cushion which keeps order in any society and ensures smooth day-to-day life. As a consequence it is now a direct confrontation between security forces and irate, helpless but politically conscious population”, he said.

If the situation remained unaddressed it could reach a point of no return, he said.

Sayeed said it is unfortunate that while the count of dead, mostly youngsters and children keeps mounting the government is busy “enacting dramas in the name of filing FIR’s to cause further confusion”.

He reiterated if the government was really serious about punishing the guilty, “It should have made Anantnag killings of three youth or the nine year old Waseem Ahmad Rah’s beating to death as test cases as the evidence against the guilty officials in these cases is already proved beyond doubt”.

Sayeed said chaos and anarchy in cities, towns and villages are unprecedented and ruling dispensation is content with enjoying frills of power without any accountability for continuing killings, atrocities, desecration of holy places and creation of a large number of disabled persons.
