Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday unanimously authorised its president Mehbooba Mufti to take the call on government-formation in Jammu and Kashmir and continuation of its alliance with the BJP.
“The party deliberated on our score-card during the last 10 months of the PDP-BJP coalition rule and unanimously authorised PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to take a final call on the future of our alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party,” senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar told reporters after a marathon party meeting here.
The party reposed complete trust in Mehbooba Mufti during the four-hour meeting, the former education minister said.
Senior party leaders and functionaries, including former ministers and legislators, met at ‘Fair View’, the chief minister’s official residence on the high-security Gupkar Road.
“Mehbooba Mufti told the party leaders that she would not rush into taking the crucial decision and would take the final call after thorough consideration,” Akhtar said.
He said the PDP also appreciated India and Pakistan for continuation of the peace process despite the January 2 attack on the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot in Punjab.
“Continuing the peace process between the two countries is in line with (late chief minister) Mufti Sahib’s vision,” the former minister said.
Mehbooba Mufti’s father and chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on January 7.
