PCPA calls bandh in tribal-dominated districts

Jhargram (WB), April 19: Maoist-backed People’s Committee against Police Atrocity (PCPA) today called an indefinite bandh from tomorrow in three tribal-dominated districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia demanding the arrested people during police raids be produced in court.

Ten persons were arrested during raids in the forested villages of Brindabanpur, Sirshi in Jhargram and Bhalukbasa in Goaltore of West Midnapore district in the past three days, police said.

PCPA leader Manoj Mahato claimed all of them were not produced before the court and were illegally detained.

Meanwhile, Raimoni Hansda, a tribal woman of Brindabanpur, lodged a complaint in a local court that policemen and paramilitary forces tortured them and looted their houses during a raid on April 15.

Raimoni’s relative Ramsai Hansda was arrested from his wedding ceremony at Brindabanpur on the charge of being a Maoist guerrilla on April 15, sources said.
