Charged with the success of State-level convention held last month, the Pradesh Congress Party is now gearing up to conduct regional conventions across the State.
The first such convention covering West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts will be held at Vijayawada on January 7. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana and other senior leaders on Wednesday participated in a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan to review the arrangements for the regional convention.
Briefing the media about the outcome of meeting, former minister and PCC Media Cell chairman Mohammad Ali Shabbir said that the regional convention would be attended by Union Health Minister and Incharge of AP Congress Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad and other Central leaders. He said that the convention was being organised to rejuvenate the local cadre and help it in taking the government’s welfare schemes to the doorstep of the people. He said although there was no specific agenda for the meeting, but almost all issues raised by the local cadre would be discussed.
Stating that the convention was aimed at preparing the cadre and leaders for the 2014 elections, Shabbir Ali said that similar regional conventions would be held across the State during the next few weeks.
Guntur MLA Mastan Vali and PCC vice-president M Gangadharam were also present during the press conference.
Wednesday’s meeting at Gandhi Bhavan was attended by Union Minister of State Panabaka Lakshmi, State Ministers – Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, TG Venkatesh, Pithani Satyanarayana, Vatti Vasanth Kumar, K Venkata Krishna Reddy and K Parthasarathy. The members of Parliaments KVP Ramchandra Rao and U Arun Kumar were also present.
However, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal and Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao abstained from the meeting. (INN)
