PCB denies rift within Pakistan team

Lahore, July 16: Pakistan’s historic Test series defeat against Sri Lanka may have raised questions over the team’s unity, but the PCB said captain Younis Khan shares good relations with his teammates and there is no divisions in the national side.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed the suggestions made by former cricketers like Sarfraz Nawaz, Abdul Qadir and Inzamam-ul-Haq, who have raised concerns over the national team, saying that it seems to be divided.

Ijaz Butt, national board chairman, has also ruled out the idea of sacking Younis Khan as captain.

”There can be no chance of factionalism in the team as I believe Younis has good relations with seniors like Misbah-ul-Haq and others,” Butt said.

”It is not a joke to change the captain again and again,” he was quoted as saying by ‘The News’.

The Pakistan team faced severe criticism after their second successive Test defeat, which allowed Sri lanka to take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

The loss also left the national team crashing to its first-ever Test series defeat in the island nation.

Pakistan play the third and final Test of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka from July 20-24.
