Chennai, August 17: Addressing a press conference at Satyamurthi Bhavan, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee headquarters, here on Monday, state Youth Congress president M Yuvaraj alleged that Karti P Chidambaram, son of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, was creating rifts in the organisation. He said a complaint has been filed with the youth wing in-charge of the state, Kiran Kumar Reddy, who, he claimed, has promised action against erring members.
“Youth Congress leaders from various parts of the state have complained to me about Karti’s interference in the functioning,” Yuvaraj told the media. He said Karti has claimed that he’s acting on behalf of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, which is not true. “He is interested only in his personal growth,” said the youth wing leader.
He also named some YC functionaries who have been issued show-cause notices for allegedly involving Karti in the youth wing’s activities at Nagapattinam district recently. Later in the day, Yuvaraj met Reddy, who is in town to oversee a training camp for the newly-elected members.
When contacted, Karti declined to react, maintaining he was yet to know what the allegations were against him. “I was told that some comments were made. I am yet to ascertain what exactly they were.”
Reddy admitted there was factionalism in the youth wing. “We are trying to build the organisation here, and there is bound to be minor issues. We will issue show-cause notices and take action if the reply is not satisfactory,” he said.
