PC in Hyderabd to watch finals of badminton championship

New Delhi, August 16: Home Minister P Chidambaram will be in Hyderabad today to watch the finals of the World Badminton Championship being held under the shadow of alleged terror threat to the event.

The Minister left for the city in the morning and is expected to be back in the national capital later in the day, official sources said.

The England team had pulled out from the championship citing security reasons after certain intelligence reports suggested that there could be a Lashkar-e-Taiba threat to the tournament.

Chidambaram, earlier downplaying the intelligence input, had said, “I am satisfied that the World Badminton Championship will take place in complete security. No one need to have any apprehensions on this score.”

He had said the alert in Hyderabad was based on the information shared with the state police in a routine manner.
