New Delhi, December 11: Ahead of the fourth phase of polls in Jharkhand, the Centre has assured the voters of state its commitment to provide security to enable them to exercise their franchise without fear.
In a statement issued, Home Minister P Chidambaram asked the voters of the 14 Assembly constituencies going to the polls tomorrow to vote in large numbers.
“The impressive turnout (in the previous three phases) was largely due to the eagerness of the people of Jharkhand to participate in the elections and elect candidates of their choice,” he said.
In the previous three phases, the percentage of voting was 53.1 per cent, 58.8 and 57.2 per cent.
Chidambaram said free and fair elections constitute the foundation of a democracy and the government was committed to provide security so that the voters can exercise their right to franchise without any sense of fear.
