Panaji, January 19: The Indian Ports Association and major workers federations today reached a wage settlement and announced the signing of a deal revising pay scales of employees of 12 major ports across the country.
Class III and class IV employees of 12 major port trusts will get benefit of revised wages, allowances and other remuneration with effect from January 1, 2007 as per a formula worked out by a committee set up for the purpose, representatives of the management and workers’ federations told reporters here.
S S Hussan, Chairman of the Bipartite Wage Negotiation Committee (BWNC) set up by the Shipping Ministry to settle the wage issues, said the agreement will be in force till 2012 and the employees will be paid arrears as per revised wages.
